The coin depicts the eyes of Sepioteuthis lessoniana for a very special reason: this type of squid has a second transparent cornea that completely covers both large eyes. As a result, squid in large reefs can simultaneously monitor their prey and at the same time guard against impending predators. In addition, such spectacular eyes make it easier for this creature to orientate in the twilight zone of the ocean, even at depths of several hundred meters and more.
