The 2026 silver coin The Drowned Beast is the second issue in the Slavic Beasts series, dedicated to mythical creatures from Slavic folklore. The coin features the Utopiec (the Drowned Beast) – a mysterious water spirit associated with rivers, lakes, swamps and other bodies of water. In Slavic legends, the Drowned Beast was considered a creature that lived in the depths of water or swampy areas, lurking for unwary travelers. It was associated with unexplained disappearances, accidents in the water and the unpredictable power of nature. In some stories, this creature is depicted as a dangerous spirit, in others – as a guardian of water bodies, whose peace should not be disturbed. The reverse of the coin depicts a Drowned Beast emerging from a dark swamp. The slender figure of the mythical creature, with its elongated limbs and fish tail, is surrounded by reeds, water lilies and dense swamp vegetation. The composition is complemented by a frog, a dragonfly and an old wooden wheel. The reverse also features the original inscriptions UTOPIEC and SLAVIC BESTIARY. The obverse depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of Cameroon, the year 2026 and the nominal value of 500 CFA francs. The central motif is surrounded by a decorative background with plant and animal elements inspired by the underwater world. The coin is issued on behalf of Cameroon and has the status of an official means of payment. The coin is minted in 999 fineness silver. It contains one troy ounce, or approximately 31.10 g, of pure silver. The diameter of the coin is 38.61 mm, and the mintage is limited to 1,000 pieces. The issue was produced by the Mennica Gdańska in Poland. Each coin comes in a protective capsule and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The limited edition, detailed design and Slavic mythology theme give the coin exceptional collector appeal. It is suitable for collections of mythological creatures, folklore and modern collectible silver coins.
