The 2011 Lunar II – Year of the Rabbit is an exceptional Australian bullion gold coin from the second of the famous Australian Lunar series. The coin was minted by one of the world’s most renowned bullion mints, The Perth Mint. It contains one troy ounce – 31.10 g – 999.9 fineness, of gold. The reverse of the coin depicts a rabbit next to a cabbage and a traditional bowl with Chinese characters. The composition also includes the Chinese character for rabbit, the inscription “Year of the Rabbit” and The Perth Mint’s mint mark P. The detailed relief and the contrast of glossy and matte surfaces highlight the design of the coin. The rabbit is the fourth of the twelve animals of the Zodiac in the Chinese Lunar calendar. It is associated with calmness, caution, wisdom, creativity and success. This coin can be seen not only as a form of physical gold, but also as a symbolic gift for someone born in the Year of the Rabbit. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. Surrounding the portrait are the monarch’s name, country name, coin weight, gold fineness, year of issue and face value of 100 Australian dollars. The coin is the official currency of Australia. The maximum mintage of the 2011 One Troy Ounce issue was limited to 30,000 coins and was completely sold out. The limited mintage, the annually changing Lunar series design and the internationally recognized provenance of The Perth Mint give the coin additional collector appeal.
