The
reverse of the coin depicts one of the ten heraldic royal beasts, the
lion, a formidable symbol of royal power. The background of the reverse
is reminiscent of the grandeur of the Tudor period.
The Queen's lion
is depicted roaring above a shield with the badge of Jane Seymour - a
hawthorn tree behind an ornate gate, and a golden phoenix at the top.
Interestingly, the phoenix symbolizes rebirth and love, which suggests
that Jane added it to express King Henry VIII's love for her and to show
rebirth from his previous marriage to his second wife, Anne Boleyn.
The obverse depicts the official coin portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, created by Martin Jennings.
The coin is minted in 999.9 fine gold according to the precious metals standard.
