The Australian kangaroo or nugget is the oldest coin series from the Australian Perth Mint, which opened in 1899. The coin was minted for the first time in 1987 in the four standard sizes of 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce with a purity of 99.99% and is therefore gold according to the Maple Leaf coin the second oldest bullion coin made of pure gold. Due to the high level of awareness, the very high minting quality and the low price, the Australian gold kangaroo is extremely popular with investors worldwide. The circulation of the Australian kangaroo or nugget was unlimited in the first three years of production, i.e. up to and including 1989. Since 1990, the mintage of the 1 ounce coins has been limited. The limit set fluctuated between 250,000 and 300 per year over the next four years. 000 pieces until 1994 when the minting limit was increased to 350,000 pieces a year. Since then, however, this circulation has never been fully developed and has fluctuated between 31,206 (in 2001) and 298,016 (in 2009) pieces per year. By the end of 2011, just over 3.5 million of the 1 ounce coins had already been produced. You can view the detailed embossing numbers directly here. In addition to the sizes from 1/10 ounce to 1 ounce that were offered right from the start, the Australian kangaroo and nugget series were further expanded. From 1990, the gold coin was also issued in 1/20 ounce size and limited to 200,000 pieces per year. The twentieth was minted for the last time in 2009 - probably due to a sharp decline in sales - and production was then discontinued. Also since 1990 the sizes have been 2 ounce, 10 ounces and 1 kilogram introduced with unlimited circulation. Like the twentieth, the production of the 2 ounce and 10 ounce coins was discontinued again in 2009, so that in addition to the 1 kilogram variant, only the four original standard sizes are currently being offered again. The face of the coin features the annually changing Australian kangaroo motif. In addition to the lettering 'Australian Kangaroo' and the mint mark 'P' typical of the Perth Mint, there are also the initials of the respective designer, the year of issue '2012', the weight '1oz', the fineness '9999' and the metal 'gold' '. The reverse of the coin has the face value '100 Dollars' and the country of issue 'Australia'. In addition, the inscription 'Elizabeth II', a profile picture of the same, as well as the initials 'IRB' of the engraver Ian Rand-Broadley. The coins are supplied individually in a transparent hard plastic capsule in all units from 1/20 ounce to 1 kilogram.
