The
2024 silver coin “Anguilla – Regatta” is part of the EC8 series, a
collection of eight countries and territories of the Eastern Caribbean
Currency Union. Each issue in the series presents the culture, nature, history or its most important symbols of a specific Caribbean island.
The reverse of the coin commemorates Anguilla’s sailing tradition and the theme of the regatta. The
dynamic composition depicts sailboats racing at sea, conveying speed,
competition and the islanders’ strong connection to the Caribbean Sea.
Boat racing holds a unique place in Anguilla’s culture and is considered the island’s national sport. Traditional
regattas are contested on locally designed and built sailboats, and
these races are often held during national holidays and carnivals.
The coin contains one troy ounce – 31.10 g – of pure silver. The one-ounce format is popular with both physical silver buyers and collectors of themed coins. The EC8 series motifs change annually, giving each issue a unique collectible character.
The obverse features the features typical of the official Eastern
Caribbean Islands issue: the issuer’s designation, face value, year of
issue and portrait of the ruler. The
coin has the status of official currency in Anguilla, but its market
value is primarily determined by the amount of silver, the mintage of a
particular issue, its condition and collector demand.
This issue is suitable for collectors of sailing, maritime, Caribbean and EC8 series coins. The expressive regatta motif also makes the coin an attractive gift for maritime and sailing enthusiasts.
