2 oz (62.21 g) Silver Peace Dove – End of World War I, Australia, 2018 The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. The portrait is surrounded by the name of the country, the amount of silver, the fineness, the year of issue and the face value. The coin is minted from 999.9 fine silver. It contains two troy ounces, or approximately 62.21 g of pure silver. The coin measures 40.6 mm in diameter, 6.42 mm in thickness and has a face value of 2 Australian dollars. It was minted at The Perth Mint and has the status of an official currency of Australia. The coin is produced in the Piedfort format. This term describes a thicker and heavier coin that remains similar in diameter to the regular one-ounce coin, but contains two troy ounces of silver. The greater thickness gives the coin a massiveness and allows for a clearer depiction of relief details. The reverse of the coin depicts a flying dove of peace holding a poppy flower in its beak. The dove has long been considered a symbol of peace, and red poppies are associated with the memory of soldiers who died in the First World War. The English word Peace is repeated in various fonts in the background, as well as the year 1918 and the inscription End of World War I. The design was created by Aleysha Howarth. The 2018 silver coin was issued to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War. Hostilities ceased on November 11, 1918, when the Armistice of Compiègne came into effect. The design of the commemorative issue is dedicated to peace, memory and honoring the people who suffered in the war. The maximum circulation of this coin is 10,000 pieces.
