This is exactly how the rabbit is depicted on the new coin dedicated to this year’s host.
The Black Water Rabbit brings good luck, which is why the rabbit is held in high regard and has much symbolism in different cultures. At different times a rabbit’s foot or tail was used as an amulet of good luck and protection. It is still believed that a gift rabbit brings harmony, friendly relations, and warmth to the home. 
Even though this year’s host is a water rabbit, this cute animal actually represents the Earth element. This is why the rabbit is always associated with constancy, cool head and intelligence. The obverse of the coin features a stylised coat of arms of Niue. The crossed clubs at the bottom, katoua, are the symbol of the Niue island, and the motto of the island is above them, ‘atua Niue tukulagi’. Each coin is ready for gifting – packed in a special wooden box.
